Behind the Number

Writing from inside — daily life, family, food, mental health, and everything in between. Unfiltered, by other humans.

Behind the Number

Behind every inmate number there is a person. A person with a beating heart, flesh, and bones. The difference is that we are removed from society for a number of reasons.

This blog isn’t going to be about complaining that we don’t need prisons, or that we should stop locking up people who commit criminal acts — because that’s not how I truly feel. I have personally met people who should never be released, not because of their crimes, but because of their mentality and views on violence.

At the same time, I have met people who should be freed because they would be more useful in the free world. They are here just wasting taxpayer money and taking up space.

This blog is meant to give you a view of some of the issues inmates encounter and deal with on a daily basis. Of course, I can only speak of my own experiences — everyone’s journey is different.

My goal for this project is to try to bridge the gap between behind the wall and the free world — to provide insight to people who are interested, and keep my readers entertained. All my writing is a first-person account, viewed through my eyes and filtered only through my thoughts.

I hope you enjoy it. Thank you for reading and visiting.
