Scarface is one of my all-time favorite movies. I’m sure a lot of people love this movie as well. Many of us like it for different reasons and enjoy different parts. It’s something about that story — how Tony came to this country and made his way to the top by breaking all the rules without humbling himself to anyone. Even the people that put him in the position to begin with. Which is ultimately what caused his total downfall as well. There is a Tony in all of us, I believe. The part of us that wants to buck the system.
My favorite part of the movie is the iconic restaurant scene when he is being kicked out, and right before he leaves he goes on what seems to be a drunken rant. He states he’s the bad guy. Then he asks the question to everyone: “So what does that make you, good?” He then says, “You’re not good, you just know how to lie and cheat, and see, I don’t have that quality.” That part right there, I love it, because it captures our society perfectly.
Our society is full of liars and con artists that cheat to get ahead, and yes, some of them do get caught and end up in places like this. The majority slip through the cracks and remain free. Some even manage to get themselves into positions of power. Of course, being too honest and truthful is what got Tony whacked. The point is, there is no such thing as a bad guy. Just people that do stupid and bad things. I’m sure no one is totally sin free. I only know of one man that was, and we know how that went.
But I’m out, they are yelling rec. Til next time, Be smart and Stay Free!
